Pasar Tondong

These paintings is my artistic documentations of the old town and bazaar located in Bau District. it had since been earmarked as a heritage area. Tondong bazaar and Siniawan bazaar are two of the earliest towns found along the bank of the upper part of Sarawak Kanan river. During its hay days it was a bustling little town where the bidayuh from the villages around Siniawan and Singhai areas to buy and sell their goods. Siniawan bazaar has became a weekend destinations for their famous weekend food bazaar. Both bazaar has its own unique architecture of the past in which wood was the predominant material used and designs borrowed from the traditional malay architecture design. With the advent of time it had since change with the introduction of new modern material like concrete for renovation, reinforcement and maintenance of the ailing structures. the predominant colour used in my composition is the warm yellow colours which symbolises the heritage value which is comparable to the value gold.
