Sarawak State Library, Sibu

The Concept

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu was launched on 21 October 2020 by the Honorable Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak.

Ideally themed Educate Yourself, all facilities and infrastructures provided are intended as a catalyst for self-learning. These processes involve exploring, playing while learning, and inculcating creative and innovative thinking. It is of great importance to promote a lifelong learning attitude among individuals or communities as a whole.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu offers various services and functions in line with the Sarawak State Library Ordinance 1999.These services are made available to the residents in Sibu, especially in terms of electronic and digital infrastructure which includes:

Other services that are available are as follows:

In addition, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu is also a reference center for government depository services for the central zone of Sarawak. Among the activities that have been planned include archival and legal deposit awareness seminars, collection centre for legal deposit materials, assessments of public records and collection development for Sarawakiana materials.

The Environment

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu is located on Lot 1607, Sungai Merah, situated about 7 km from the city center. The library is built near the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Laila Taib Campus College, Fire and Rescue Department and Sibu Indoor Stadium.

The Sibu campus brings forward a modern and minimalists interior design, with a softscape’s project planned in near future, will provide a calm and comfortable learning atmosphere for library patrons.
