Retro Sofas and Funky Chairs – A Real London Story Retro chairs and sofas have been part of my life for contemporary leather armchair years. My first memory of proper furniture is my grandad’s wingback chair. It sagged in the middle and smelled faintly of tea, but it carried memories. Back in the sixties, furniture meant something. Chairs lived longer than flats. That history clings to vintage pieces. I dragged a velvet armchair home from Camden. The fabric was stained and buy armchairs faded, but you can’t fake that kind of comfort.

That chair still sits in my flat. You can tell the area by the chairs. Mayfair goes glossy, with deep sofas. Brixton thrives on colour, with bold fabrics. The clash gives it character. Modern flat-pack doesn’t hold a candle. Retro pieces last decades. Every stain has a story. Truth be told, a battered sofa tells more truth than any showroom. A sofa should tell your story. When you walk past a glossy showroom, take a look at what’s already lived.

Save a battered seat, and let it grow with you.
