Summary
This book is interesting to me. To me, not only it talks about herbs that can be made into medicine for children but what I found interesting is on the point that the author tries to highlight the paramount to pass on the knowledge of herbal medicine to all especially the children. As she puts in “it’s especially important today to pass those little seeds of wisdom and knowledge along to children”. Here, Rosemary Gladstar, stresses the importance of making the children and the generation to be the future caretaker of herbal traditions and the stewards of healing plants. The book has four chapters which the first chapter talks on herbal medicine for children, second chapter on the best herbs for children while chapter four talks on treating common childhood ailments and the final chapter on how to make herbal remedies. The best herbs for children was described such as as anise which primarily used as a carminative (gas expelling), warming digestive aid and some other herbs like catnip, chamomile, dill, spearmint, wild cherry and many other herbs which easily can be found at the author’s surrounding and Western world climates. To me, this is a precious book and also a perfect guide for readers, well written by respected herbalist Rosemary Gladstar. Her recipes ae safe, effective and without side effects which can be used for all the most common ailments that affect children; teething, colic, cradle cap, diaper rash, earaches, fevers, colds, burns, cut and more. The herbs also made into many forms that appeal to children, from herbal popsicles and candy balls to teas, syrups and calming baths.
