Summary
As the title suggest, “THE EMOTIONAL COMPASS : HOW TO THINK BETTER ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS” is about how to navigates feelings and emotions and how to be in control of feelings and emotions. The author included ways to assessing each emotion or as to why people acting so. Her concept is by knowing where or what cause the emotion. Not only that, it is also a guide to how to respond appropriately. Apparently, the book is a collection of a special need collection. Never actually knew that not being able to understand or to express the two matter consider as a disorder but know I know. I also think that the book might not be suitable for all reader and it only cater for certain reader that might probably have troubles in identifying their emotions. I like how the author took into account of people or readers who does not know to tell & express their emotions. In the book, for most of the example, the author took her experience as example to demonstrate interaction with people. I also like how, when words failed, the author actually took initiative to explain in models, which I think is quite useful for readers. The book is well explained and it is not the kind of book for readers to read casually because this is for me the kind of book that if a reader rush in into the content of the book they will probably get lost in the book not in a good way I mean. To understand what was written in the book, reader needs to relate their experience. It is easy doing so since the author did that a lot in the book. Emotions as we know are subjective, and for some it might be tricky to navigate it. According to the author, the book is written by keeping the sensitive people or readers close in mind. Not only that the author relates her experience, the book offered or include range of case studies, practical activities to practice on the emotions and psychological wisdom in the pursue for emotional stability and happiness. The above may have make the book sounded dry, but I love how it does not so far and the reading so far have been an easy ride since I do not have to look up for jargon on the internet, sentence structure and vocabulary choice is nothing on the complex side which is what I prefer for a book. The book as I said earlier is not to be indulge casually, it needs time and understanding to really immerse in the book and understand it. The title said for itself that it is THE EMOTIONAL COMPASS, or in other word a guide book for a person who is unsure of their emotions and how to react to certain situation, which I think really serve it purpose.
