Sarawak State Library, Sibu


The Concept

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu was launched on 21 October 2020 by the Honourable Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak.

Aligned with the theme Educate Yourself, all facilities and infrastructure provided aim to foster self-directed learning. This process involves exploration, learning through play, and nurturing creative and innovative thinking. It is crucial to promote lifelong learning attitudes among individuals or communities as a whole.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu offers a variety of services and functions in line with the Sarawak State Library Ordinance 1999. These services are provided to residents of Sibu, especially in terms of electronic and digital infrastructure, which includes:

  • E-Newspapers
  • Sarawak State Bibliography
  • Sarawak Authors
  • e-Sarawak Gazette
  • u-Pustaka

Other services provided include:

  • access to reference materials
  • book lending services
  • facility rental
  • prayer room (Surau)
  • Bookstore Café
  • Fun Place for Children
  • Makerspace

Additionally, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu also serves as a reference centre for depository services for government agencies in the central zone of Sarawak. Planned activities include archival and legal deposit awareness seminars, legal deposit collection centre operations, public records evaluation, and development of Sarawakiana material collections.


Environment

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Sibu is located at Jalan Tun Tuanku Bujang, Sungai Merah, about 7 km from the city centre. The library is built near the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Laila Taib College Campus, Fire and Rescue Department, and the Sibu Indoor Stadium.

The Sibu campus features a modern and minimalist interior design. With an upcoming softscape project, it will offer a peaceful and comfortable learning environment for library visitors.
