A daughter born from a religious family, this book details her life as she struggled to get an education as her parents, devout Mormon, believed that formal education was harmful to children. Tara, however, was keen to learn, but her family was unable to accommodate her informational needs as their lack of finances and social status. Tara was homeschooled by her father on his own resulting in her lack of knowledge on contemporary issues. Tara’s memoir can be seen as inspiring as she grew from an uneducated child into a woman with a Ph.D.
