Ringkasan
In this book, the author argues that based on research findings, soil fertility in the tropic is declining due to widespread annual cropping and subsistence farming. In contrast, he explains, plantation agriculture provides better soil protection. Focusing on soil chemical changes under different land-use systems in the tropics, which include perennial crops, annual crops and forest plantations, two case studies presented details analysis of the soil fertility decline. These case studies are on sisal plantations in Tanzania and sugar cane in Papua New Guinea. This book is suitable for policy makers, academicians and students of the field.
