MIRI – Pustaka Miri has once again collaborated with one of its smart
partners – Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Miri Branch to conduct a talk
on `Appreciating Nature Walks` on Saturday, 3rd March 2012.
Some 60 students joined the program which aimed to introduce one of the
many conservation programmes by the State government, the roles Sarawak
Forestry Corporation and MNS as well as putting a highlight on trekking
as an avenue in appreciating nature.
This event took place in the AV Room at 9:00am and the two (2) invited
speakers were Sunni bin Mali - Sibuti Wildlife Sanctuary`s Park Ranger
and Peter Pillai - MNS Miri Branch Chairman.
They shared colourful slides on nature walks which featured the
beautiful flora and fauna at Niah and Mulu National Parks. The talk also
covered aspects of nature walks including precautions that need to be
taken seriously when encountering dangerous insects and animals.
The participants also had a surprise treat when the beauty queens of
Miss Global International Malaysia 2011 joined them for the talk. They
were the reigning queen Sheela Khaw Chwee Yin and second runners-up
Esther Tan and Marlene Lim.
