MIRI – Institut Pendidikan Guru Sarawak Campus collaborated with Pustaka Miri to stage a musical drama entitled ‘Metamorfosis’ recently on Saturday, 25th February 2012.
Some 200 persons came to watch the musical, which was staged in Bahasa Malaysia, in the library’s Auditorium from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
The musical drama was aimed to promote awareness on dyslexia and at the same time, taught the audience drama techniques for contemporary drama as well as techniques to help students with dyslexia and motivate teenagers to be achievers.
‘Metamorfosis’ won the Best Choreographer Award during the 2011 Sarawak Chief Minister Cup Drama Competition in October 2011.
The actors, dancers and singers are multi-racial teacher trainees from a range of special fields including mathematics, English, Chinese, special education and remedial education.
The story is about a boy who was rejected because of dyslexia but became a great dancer and in turn, he helps others to develop their talents.
Although the staging for the musical was simple as it was a contemporary drama, the message it tried to convey was that everyone deserves a chance to shine and that everyone has something to offer.
