KUCHING: State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul
Ghani yesterday handed the state flag to the contingent from Sarawak
State Library who will be representing Sarawak in the 21st Inter-state
Library Sports Carnival to be held here from Aug 7 to 11.

The flag
was received by its chief executive officer Rashidah Bolhassan in a
simple and brief ceremony at the lobby of Wisma Bapa Malaysia, which was
witnessed by the state library contingent.

Rashidah said the event to be participated by 14 states will be launched on Aug 8 at Stadium Perpaduan.

“Some
600 to 700 athletes will participate in eight sports; namely futsal,
volleyball, netball, sepak takraw, ping pong, badminton, basketball and
dart.

“Sarawak will be represented by 62 staff members,” she told reporters after the handing-over of the state flag yesterday.

“We
also included a golf tournament for state board of directors and
traditional games to foster national integrity and expand our networking
among the state libraries personnel,” she added.

Rashidah
disclosed that the theme for this year’s carnival is ‘Segulai Sejalai’,
which aims to inculcate in their management philosophy the improvement
of services in all libraries nationwide.

She declared they were all prepared for the carnival, adding they were at their peak.

Besides the carnival, she said a seminar would be held to provide a wider perspective of library services in the country.

Rashidah
revealed that the last time Sarawak hosted the sports carnival was in
2003, and most of the times they were either first or second runner-up.

“This time we have home ground advantage and maybe we will bring back the challenge trophy,” she enthused.

She said during the last carnival in 2013 held in Selangor, Sabah was the champion.

“But this time we give Sabah a tough run as we have the home ground advantage,” she said.

Rashidah
said the participants from various states will arrive tomorrow and
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will be their sports village and
Stadium Perpaduan their sports venue.
