KUCHING: International Archives Week 2019 is currently happening at Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) here.

In line with the theme "Designing the Archives for the 21st Century", Pustaka is calling professionals, particularly information managers, records managers, archivists and the community to work together with library to build the collection of the state archive.

According to its press statement yesterday, archives are witnesses of the past which provide evidence, explanation and justification both for past actions and current decisions that evolve from memory, both individual and societal.

"Source for memory are oral recollections, languages, culture and heritage, architecture, landmarks, but the main resource which most rely on to learn about the past is Archives.

"All parties need to work together with Pustaka in building the collection of our State Archives and ensure Records and Archive standards and practices are adhered to.

"Good record keeping and practices help in preserving our corporate memory, history and cultural heritage," said the statement.

Pustaka urged those interested to become Friends of the Archive programme to understand Pustaka role as the State Archive.

"The community can help Pustaka archive grow by making donations and bequeaths of important documents or personal records of individuals and corporate bodies.

"We also share our next exciting archive building project with a virtual tour of the new proposed archive building. We would like to hear your wishes for the building too," it added.
