SARAWAK STATE LIBRARY AT IFLA WLIC 2026, BUSAN, KOREA

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak (Sarawak State Library), Malaysia, proudly marked its presence on the global stage at the 90th IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2026, held from 10–13 August 2026 at BEXCO, Busan, Korea.

Representing Sarawak State Library, Malaysia, Mr. Ahmad bin Samsudin presented a paper on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at BEXCO, under the theme:

“Visualizing Art: Multimedia Transformations in Libraries”

with the paper entitled:

“Bringing Paintings to Life: A Library Innovation Initiative through Augmented Reality Interactive Collections (ARIC)”

The presentation highlighted the Library’s innovative approach to transforming the experience of art collections through Augmented Reality (AR), bringing paintings to life through interactive multimedia while enhancing access, engagement, and appreciation of art and cultural heritage.

The Library was also represented in Poster Session 126 by Ms. Nurfarathul Aqma Binti Julani and Ms. Nur Amanina Binti Mastani, who presented:

“TRACING SARAWAKIANA: Inspiring Knowledge, Transforming Lives Through Community-Centered Heritage Outreach.”

Their presentation showcased efforts to bring Sarawak’s rich heritage and local knowledge closer to communities through meaningful, community-centred outreach.

These presentations reflect Pustaka Negeri Sarawak’s continued commitment to innovation, knowledge sharing, cultural heritage preservation, and community engagement, while showcasing Sarawak and Malaysia’s library initiatives to the international library and information community.

Participation in IFLA WLIC 2026 provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas, building international networks, and strengthening collaboration with library and information professionals from around the world.
