Summary
From Smart to Wise to me, is a good example of what the book talks about. It is a wise, clear and grounded in real experience. The authors remind us that our humanity is the key success to business, and that a purpose greater than profit is needed to a create a world that is fulfilling as well as productive. In this book, the authors identified six capabilities that all leaders, both smart and wise share – perspective, action orientation, role clarity, decision logic, fortitude and motivation. Wise leaders optimize those capabilities and becoming better able to switch from a narrow focus on operation or strategy to a more holistic perspective, act both authentically and appropriately in any context and show true courage under fire, knowing when to hold and when to fold as well as act consistently out of enlightened self-interest, creating value for both shareholders and society. I found this book is useful as it offers the practical framework and personalized tools to operate consciously as a wise leader every day. This book is so because the writings is taken from both authors extensive research and consulting experience over twenty years. They draw on real-life stories of leaders such as Allan Mullaly (CEO, Ford), Indra Nooyi (CEO, PepsiCo) and a few other CEOs of multi-million dollars companies. Their stories are filled with thought provoking advise and insights that essential to succeed in the complex world.
