Summary
Photographing pets is both a challenging and fun-filled experience based on collaboration, knowledge, acquired skill, self-awareness and the ability to mix these and many more ingredients to produce compelling photographic imagery. Pet photography is the perfect way to combine both your love of animals and photography. I knew when I started photographing pets it would have it s challenges, but I never knew how much it would positively impact my life and how I could use my images to impact others lives both human and animal. This book is perfect for those of you, like me, who love animals and photography and have interest in honing your skills so you can experience its positive impact. Whether you re studying this book purely for personal growth, to build confidence in using your photography to help animals in need, or you re interested in sparking up a new career welcome! I commend you for showing up. Pet photography requires all of the components needed for creating individual portraits of people: strong composition, knowledge of your equipment and subject, good lighting, creativity, perspective but also adding an animal or two to the mix! Easy right? Not quite, but totally doable and this book is here to lighten the load and bring a little ease into your efforts. Loving animals and photography isn t a choice for me because I feel like they picked me! You might feel the same way. The choice, however, is in continuing with the practice of photography one I have been committed to for many years. I learn something from every single shoot. I ve also learned to place value on the opportunity to continue to grow and learn rather than fight against it. This can shift the experience of creating pet portraits around completely. In this book, I share some of the challenges, successes, tips, tricks, check-lists, do s and don ts. It gives you everything you need to start photographing pets with more confidence and ideas for what to consider when creating meaningful pet portraits. In this book, I share my process, some of my inner dialogue my honest accounts of the process of working with animals and will demystify the experience for you so you can develop kind expectations for yourself and reasonable goals within each session. When you are finished with this book you will have the emotional and technical tools you need to go out and create beautiful imagery of pets as well as strong guidance for how to capture authentic connection between pets and people. This book is all about tapping into what s important to you as a photographer and learning how you can use your photography to impact your life as well as others with confidence and joy.
