Bookaroo fest to tour schools for joy of reading

Posted on 24 March 2015

KUCHING: A festival aimed at promoting the joy of reading among children will be held this month.

Pustaka
Negeri Sarawak will hold the inaugural Pustaka Bookaroo Children’s
Literature Festival on March 28 and 29 at the Sarawak State Library in
association with Bookaroo Trust, New Delhi, India.

The festival
will give children and booklovers a chance to meet and interact with
distinguished local and foreign children’s books authors, illustrators
and storytellers – all in one place.

It will also include Bookaroo
in the City (BIC); the outreach programme where well known children’s
writers visit schools throughout the city to spread the joy of reading.

From
March 23 to 27, speakers will visit nearly 20 schools, including SK
Tabuan, PERKATA, SMK Santubong and SJK (C) Bintawa to treat children to a
variety of programmes such as storytelling sessions, interactive talks
and hands-on arts and crafts workshops.

The patron of this festival is the Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu.

The festival is open to members of the public and admission is free.
