Meet Guns N’ Roses’ guitarist at Pustaka Negeri workshop, concert on April 23-24

Posted on 21 April 2015

KUCHING: Fans of Guns N’ Roses stand a chance to meet the band’s
guitarist Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal during a two-day guitar workshop and
concert at Pustaka Negeri here.

The workshop will run from 2.30pm
to 4.30pm at the library’s first-floor auditorium this Thursday, with
limited entry to only 250 people.

“Thal will share his guitar
skills and techniques during the workshop. It is not to be missed
opportunity for local guitar enthusiasts. Those interested to attend are
urged to call and book their seats in advance,” Pustaka Negeri chief
executive officer Rashidah Bolhassan said at a press conference
yesterday.

For the ‘Performance Under the Stars’ showcase, it will
be held from 7.30pm to 10pm this Friday outside the library’s entrance.
The event is a collaboration between Pustaka Negeri and the US Embassy
in Kuala Lumpur.

Thal is a guitar virtuoso, as well as a singer,
songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer. He recently
released his 10th CD entitled ‘Little Brother Is Watching’, which could
be said as a collection of “eccentric, upbeat and modern epic rock with
haunting melodies, huge choruses and witty lyrics about life in the
digital age and beyond”.

The guitarist, who has been with Guns N’
Roses since 2006, has over 20 years of releasing music, being featured
at international festivals and headlining solo tours, as well as being
the recipient of many ‘Best Album’ awards and the cover face of music
magazines.

Thal toured with the band to sold-out shows all over
the world, headlining festivals with crowds up to 150,000. His unique
‘fretless’ guitar-playing can be heard throughout Guns N’ Roses’ 2008
album ‘Chinese Democracy’.

In 2011, Thal released an innovative
digital ‘Song-A-Month’ series that included transcriptions and backing
tracks for guitarists and recording stems for re-mixers, including a
cover of ‘The Pink Panther Theme’ featuring members of Guns N’ Roses.

Admission to both guitar workshop and concert at Pustaka Negeri is free.
