Pustaka Negeri Sarawak holds Special Collection Exhibition on Japanese Occupation in Borneo During World War II.

Posted on 14 April 2016

KUCHING - Mark your calendar and plan your day to visit our exhibition on Special Collection : Japanese Occupation in Borneo during World War II starting today until 31 July 2016. The exhibition will take place at Special Collection Room, Level 1, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak.

In 1941, the British surrendered Borneo to the
victorious Imperial Japanese Army. Japan’s Rising Sun flag now flew from all
corners of the city, heralding the start of one of the darkest chapter in
Borneo history.

This exhibition highlight on how the people of
Borneo survived with daily life and responded with grit and resourcefulness to
the Japanese Occupation, a period of great adversity and abject scarcity. It
celebrates their resilience, tenacity, resourcefulness and self-reliance;
values that remain important and relevant today.

Glimpses of these past lives are presented in
writings, memoirs, records, and photos of the uncertain and shattered world
these survivors of the war endured.

The free admission exhibition is open to public
daily from 11 am - 7 pm and closed on Public Holidays.
