Sarawakiana Talk on `Baruk headhouse` on Oct 30

KUCHING: The State Library is organising an event called the ‘Sarawakiana Talk’
entitled ‘Baruk : Bidayuh’s Cultural Heritage and Identity’ on Oct 30. 

The event is scheduled to be held 2pm
at the library’s Gallery. The talks is held in conjunction with Pustaka’s
Sarawakiana Carnival 2016 which will be held from Oct 29-31.



Charlie Ungang @ Chali Anak Ungang,
who is a lecturer from Teacher Education Institute of Malaysia, Batu Lintang
Campus and vice President of the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA),
will be the invited speaker. In the talk, he will share information on the
Baruk or headhouse.



Additional information on the Baruk is that
the headhouse was known in the past as a place of congregation for Bidayuh
warriors and its interior is said to be filled with relics like gongs and
weapons and more significantly, skulls of enemies.



Members of the public are invited to
learn more on the history and uniqueness of Bidayuh’s cultural heritage and its
architecture in this talk. Entrance is free.
