PROGRAM SAFARI MEMBACA PERINGKAT NEGERI SARAWAK 2009

Posted on 23 October 2009

This program aims to promote and instill a reading habit amongst students. This
activity is called `Safari Reading` because the planned activities
will be conducted on the move and continuously from one place to another, from the North to the South of Sarawak.

This activity is a continuation of the `Safari Reading Program` implemented in the State level in 2008. Since
this program has received overwhelming response, the Sarawak Education
Department has decided to proceed with Safari Reading Program this year
to retain the format and modus operandi.

Rationale:

1. A reading habit should be cultivated as a means of knowledge acquisition and exploitation of ideas, opinions and experiences of others.

2. The practice of reading among students remains at low levels.

3. Reading Programs in schools still fail
to receive a comprehensive participation by the students.

Goal:

Make reading a culture amongst students and the general public.

Objectives:

1. Fostering a culture of reading among students and the general public.

2. To expose participants to the excitement of reading.

3. Raising awareness among community members that efforts to promote reading among students is a shared responsibility of society

4. Help create informed members of society.

5. To expose participants to a variety of reading skills and techniques.
