In order to support the effort to end deforestation and degradation of forests, Sarawak Government through Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) introduced Forest Landscape Restoration with the objectives:
• To enrich logged-over areas with high-value timber species;
• To restore and conserve degraded forests, especially in Permanent Forest Estate and State Land Forest;
• To alleviate livelihood of forest-dependent communities;
• To reduce pressure on natural forests by shifting timber production towards plantations of fastgrowing species
In recent years, FDS has embarked on its large-scale FLR program at beginning of the year 2019 and has been announced as one of the State’s main agendas by the Premier of Sarawak in March 2019 to ensure that the forest remains vibrant and its complex ecosystem could carry out its natural functions.
