Summary
As a Mirian, I feel oblige to read this book as it is about the autobiography of the author, who himself served as a medical doctor and Public Health Specialist in Miri from 1983 to 2014. The book was beautifully written on the accounts of his experiences while living as a child in the rural areas in some states of West Malaysia, working as a houseman at the University Hospital Kuala Lumpur, then as a full-fledged medical officer in Miri Hospital and Marudi Hospital before practicing as a public health officer then appointed as Divisional Medical Officer (DMO), Miri. To me, this book is very interesting as readers are brought to read the transformation of Miri into a city, the rural physical and social transformation in the once inaccessible remote riverine villages and even the characteristics of the villages with the author’s personal anecdotes with the community that he served at. What makes this book is much more interesting with the illustrations of hundreds of photos which are difficult to recapture with changing of time like the old building of Miri Hospital, the view of some of the kampungs in Miri and some of the clinics in the rural areas of Upper Baram etc. This book gives readers the real insight of the contribution rendered by the community health doctors which will inspire all those who read it.
