Summary
This well-written and beautifully-illustrated book examines the architecture of Sarawak from the earliest days up to the formation of Malaysia. The first work of its kind, it is a good read and a valuable reference work. The historical photographs, many from the Ho Ah Chon collection at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, show some long-vanished buildings, as well as landmarks which have found new uses or been refurbished. My favourites are the utilitarian designs for the ‘Junior Service Flats Type A’ at Batu Lintang, and the exuberant Capitol Cinema in Kuching in the 1950s.
