Summary: The history of Malaya in the second half of the nineteenth century has been the focus of John Gullick's 45-year-long research. His efforts have been focused on Kuala Lumpur. He has had a lot of his work published in the Royak Asiatic Society's Malaysian Branch Journal. All of his earlier writings on the subject are collected in his A History of Kuala Lumpur: 1856-1939, which also includes his most recent, previously unpublished research on the era of the city's history from the turn of the century to 1939. This book is probably going to stand as the final word on the founding years of Malaysia's capital city for the foreseeable future.
