Summary
An unemployed young Japanese grammar teacher reads in a local newspaper that a woman's skeleton has been discovered in the ruins of a prehistoric castle in the north of Okinawa Island. The remains are believed to be those of a young woman who was bricked up alive as a sacrifice in the twelfth century during the construction of the castle's walls. He travels to the village and gets hired to work on the excavations. There, he meets Sayoko, the daughter of the former owner of the land where the ruins are located. Convinced that the skeleton is her direct ancestor, Sayoko decides to transform the inn she runs with her father into a museum dedicated to this ancestor.
