In Mississippi during the early 1900s, ten-year-old David Logan’s family demonstrates remarkable kindness by offering their well water to both their white and Black neighbors, despite the ever-present danger of racial tension and violence. In my view, this act of generosity is incredibly powerful, especially in a time and place where racial divisions were so deeply entrenched. The risks they take in sharing the water highlight their bravery and willingness to defy the norms of segregation. To me, it shows not just kindness, but a quiet form of resistance against the prevailing injustices of the era.
