ANNUAL TREE PLANTING AT PUSTAKA NEGERI SARAWAK

Posted on 26 January 2017

Tree planting at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak which was held recently marks the beginning of its annual tree planting program which takes place in every quarter of the year.

This has been an annual event for the last 16 years since Pustaka first opens its doors to the public in 2000. Although at times this event was held amongst its employees, however, at times government agencies, NGOs and the local community are also invited to take part.

The objectives of this program include: as an effort to involve the local community to build a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the library in making Pustaka as their community library/place; it is also a park beautification program through planting of indigenous species of trees and plants; a general maintenance and enhancement program for the park while creating a beautiful, clean environment for all to enjoy.

A total of 41 trees were planted that day which include: Kristal, Asam Kuini, Engkalak, Cermei, Durian, Jambu Batu, Rambutan, Nangka and many more.

Also present at the ceremony were the Chairman Board of Management of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Haji Hamid Bugo and Arpah Adenan, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Pustaka.
