SARAWAK STATE LIBRARY HOLDS `1 FILE, 1 WEEK` CAMPAIGN

Kuching - Sarawak State Library will be organising a `1 File, 1 Week` campaign for the whole of Sarawak State Government agencies starting this month.

This campaign is in line with the functions of Sarawak State Library as a Sarawak State Depository which requires all government agencies to transfer their valuable records and archives to the Sarawak State Library as per stated in the Sarawak State Library Ordinance, 1999, Section 14(1)(d) : “to maintain, preserve and keep public records which are more than twenty- five years old, and other documents, papers, instruments and statues, statutory orders, regulations or decrees, directed by State Secretary to be maintained, pre-served and kept in the State Depository on account of their historical value or public importance”.

The campaign will be held in 3 series where the 1st Series is on the Introduction to Archives and Records Management which was held on 17th February 2017, 2:00 pm at Conference Room 2, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak. The 2nd Series : Practical in Processing will be held on 28th February 2017, 8:30 am at Processing Room, State Records Repository and 3rd Series : Transfer of Records and Archives Material will be on 10th March 2017, 8:30 am at Processing Room, State Records Repository.

The campaign aims to create awareness among the government departments and agencies on the importance of proper management and maintenance of records and archives.

In addition, the campaign is to encourage the transfer of systematic records and archives of government departments and agencies to the State Records Repository.

The campaign will be held in sessions and the sessions will involve records officers from 9 units in the Chief Minister’ department. The records officers are required to attend the three series campaign in order to facilitate the transfer of agencies files to the State Records Repository of Sarawak State Library.
