SARAWAKIANA TALK: “JERUNEI DAN “THE ART OF ANCIENT GRAVE MAKERS OF THE JATTI MIRIEK”

KUCHING, 25 September 2019 – Pustaka Negeri Sarawak will be hosting two Sarawakiana Talks in conjunction with the Sarawakiana Carnival, from 4th October until 6th October 2019, at Seminar Room, Level 1, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak (Kuching).

In the morning there will be a talk with title The Art of Ancient Grave Makers of the Jatti Miriek in Miri, Sarawak. The talk will start at 8:30 am until 10:30 pm and will be delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yakup Mohd. Rafee.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yakup Mohd. Rafee currently is the lecturer from the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts, UNIMAS. The talk will be related with the findings of his research in Miri.

“Jerunei”, the second talk which will be held at 2:30 pm will expose the participants to the burial rituals of the Melanau nobles. Jerunei, will expose made of lumber, tracked down to accommodate the corpse. Jerunei talks will be presented by John Ling and Eric Michael Toyad from the Sarawak Customs Council (MAIS).

Sarawakiana Carnival will be held from 4th until 6th October 2019 with theme Arts: Sculptures & Carvings. Various activities and programs are organized for this carnival.
