Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Showcases Innovation And Heritage At IFLA WLIC 2026 In Busan, Korea

14 August 2026, BUSAN, KOREA – Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Malaysia, has strengthened its presence on the international library and information stage through its participation in the 90th IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2026, held from 10 to 13 August 2026 at BEXCO, Busan, Korea.

Representing Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Encik Ahmad bin Samsudin presented a paper on 11 August 2026 under the theme “Visualizing Art: Multimedia Transformations in Libraries.” His presentation, entitled “Bringing Paintings to Life: A Library Innovation Initiative through Augmented Reality Interactive Collections (ARIC),” showcased the Library’s innovative use of Augmented Reality (AR) to create a more engaging and interactive experience for users exploring art and cultural heritage collections.

The initiative demonstrates how emerging technologies can be integrated into library services to enhance access to collections, encourage greater public engagement, and provide new ways of experiencing and appreciating art and heritage.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak was also represented at Poster Session 126 by Puan Nurfarathul Aqma Binti Julani and Puan Nur Amanina Binti Mastani, who presented “TRACING SARAWAKIANA: Inspiring Knowledge, Transforming Lives Through Community-Centered Heritage Outreach.”

The presentation highlighted the Library’s efforts to connect communities with Sarawak’s rich heritage and local knowledge through meaningful, community-centred outreach initiatives. It reflects the Library’s role in making heritage resources more accessible while encouraging communities to discover, appreciate and preserve their shared cultural heritage.

The participation of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak at IFLA WLIC 2026 reflects its continued commitment to innovation, knowledge sharing, cultural heritage preservation and community engagement. It also provides an important platform to showcase Sarawak and Malaysia’s library initiatives to the international library and information community.

The Congress further enabled the Pustaka Negeri Sarawak delegation to exchange ideas, explore emerging trends in the library and information sector, strengthen professional networks and foster opportunities for future international collaboration.

Through its participation, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak continues to position itself as an innovative and community-focused library, while contributing Sarawak’s perspectives, experiences and initiatives to the global library and information landscape.
